William Gainey Obituary, Death – William E. “Billy” Gainey, Jr., 88, of Williston, SC, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC, with Reverend John O’Cain officiating; interment will follow in the Williston Cemetery. The family will accept visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. In Mr. Billy’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Williston Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853. Mr. Billy died on Monday, May 15, 2023, at home.

He was born in Snow Hill, NC, the son of the late William E. Gainey, Sr. and Sara Edith Kitchings Gainey, and he was married to the late Patricia “Pat” Barbieri Gainey for 63 years. He worked for E.I. DuPont as a lab technician, Chem-Nuclear as a site supervisor, and Roy Leopard Chevrolet as a parts manager for numerous years. Mr. Billy was also the owner and operator of Gainey’s Amoco Gas Station, as well as the manager of Rock’s Pond Campground.

He retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation as a Resident Maintenance Engineer Supervisor. He was a veteran of the United States Army who also served in the Army Reserves. Mr. Billy enjoyed being outside and in close proximity to nature and wildlife. His sons, William Dean (Connie) Gainey of Neeses, SC, John Michael “Mike” Gainey, Richard Lee “Rick” Gainey, James Edward “Jeep” (Dawne) Gainey, Phillip Wyman (Kym) Gainey, all of Williston, SC, and Daniel Wiley (Meredith) Gainey of Aiken, SC, survive; 13 grandchildren, Tara (Dillon) Bethea,
He was predeceased by a baby brother, a sister, Sara Ann Gainey, and a grandson, Seth Gainey, in addition to his wife, Pat.
