Rick Smith Obituary,

Rick Smith Obituary, Death – The family of Rick Smith announces his passing on June 3, 2023, at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia, with deep sorrow. On October 30, 1945, Rick was born in Geraldton, Ontario. Having travelled around a lot as a child, he and his twin brother Ron settled in Cranbrook in 1958 and remained there for the remainder of their lives.

Rick was renowned for his physical prowess, athleticism, and diligence. He would willingly take things apart to mend them and put them back together and was always willing to provide a helpful hand. Rick enjoyed baking treats for others to enjoy. Nobody shoveled snow with more grit than Rick, who voluntarily cleaned snow for his neighbors. He particularly enjoyed playing board games, cribbage, and cards with his grandchildren.

He enjoyed watching classic movies and detective shows on TV as well as spending time in the vegetable garden. He enjoyed watching curling, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the local hockey clubs. Rick worked at the sawmill for many years, first for Crestbrook and subsequently for Tembec. He and his wife Marianne spent several years working as The Studio/Stage Door’s caregivers after he retired from the mill.
Rick was a genuinely nice and generous person whose upbeat outlook left an enduring impression on all who knew him. He was a beloved person who will be sadly missed. There are 11 grandkids left behind in addition to Rick’s siblings Eva Abraham, Carol Smith, and Vivian Raposo, brothers Ron (Bernice) Smith, and Barry (Jayne) McKenzie. Rick is also survived by his children Lee-Anne Franklin, Robert (Jennifer) Martini, Heather (Rob), Christine (Garrett) Mayne, and Brian (Kendra) Smith.
