Niel Immelman Obituary, Niel Immelman Has Passed Away

Nelson Casillas Obituary,

Niel Immelman Obituary, Death – Our deepest condolences go out to Niel Immelman’s family and friends on the loss of such a wonderful educator, musician, and longtime companion. He was always incredibly encouraging and supportive of both my career and my life in general. I will miss him very, very much. I drove him to Caracas so that he could perform the Grieg Concerto with the Venezuelan National Symphony Orchestra and deliver masterclasses as part of a music festival that I organized there. Everyone had the highest regard for him.
RIP lovely Niel.

Taken from the website of the Royal College of Music: It was with Cyril Smith, Ilona Kabos, and Maria Curcio that Niel Immelman received his education. When the late Bernard Haitink heard him play, he described Niel as “a great talent” and invited him to play Rachmaninov’s Paganini Rhapsody with the London Philharmonic Orchestra while Niel was still a student at the Royal College of Music. This debut was followed by appearances at the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

It also marked the beginning of a concert career that has taken him to every continent, where he has played with major orchestras under conductors such as Sir Adrian Boult, Aldo Ceccato, Louis Frémaux, Sir Charles Groves, Rudolf Schwarz, Walter Susskind, and Bryden Thomson.

His accomplishments in the classroom are just as noteworthy. He has taught masterclasses at a number of the most prestigious conservatoires in existence today, including the Chopin Academy in Warsaw, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Moscow Conservatoire, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Stockholm’s Royal College, Toronto’s Royal Conservatory, and the Universities of Berlin and Vienna, among others.
