Mathew Boone Obituary, Death – Mayor William P. Elmore Jr. and the members of the Dunn City Council are in a state of great grief and disbelief as a result of the unexpected passing of Mathew Boone, who was serving as Dunn’s Interim City Manager at the time of his death. Our most sincere thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, as well as with the men and women in our City of Dunn offices who have worked with Mathew in such a close fashion over the course of the previous five years.
During this difficult time, we have been able to collaborate closely with Mathew. After working for the City of Raleigh Community Development for seven years as the Senior Planner and for the City of Raleigh Inspection for five years as their Housing/Environmental Inspector, Mr. Boone started working for the City of Dunn on September 24, 2018, in the capacity of Assistant City Manager.
Prior to that, he worked for Raleigh for a total of twelve years. Before that, he had been employed by Raleigh for a combined total of ten years. On the first of June in 2023, Mr. Boone was given the role of Interim City Manager as a result of his appointment. He is survived by his wife Michelle, to whom he has been married for more than 13 years, as well as their three wonderful children, Piper, Cannon, and Carter. He is also survived by his parents.
Both our City and our employees are going to take a huge hit as a result of this.
