John Dickinson Obituary, Death – We are in a state of sadness after hearing the news of John Dickinson’s passing.
John and his brother Sam usually attended games as John was a devoted supporter of the Ards. Sam and the Dickinson family are foremost in our thoughts during this trying time. He was raised on Lorraine Street in Baton Rouge and went to Redemptorist High School and St. Gerard Elementary School.

He attended RHS and graduated in 1962. He graduated from LSU with a BA in 1967 and an MA in Journalism in 1972. In the summer of 1966, when she had just graduated from high school and he was a senior in college, he met Dot Daniel. Greg and Gretchen, the couple’s two gorgeous children, were born in 1968 after their marriage. John received his degree from LSU during the Vietnam War and was drafted, but his polio-affected legs prevented him from passing the physical.

Exxon, which at the time was regarded as a defense factory, offered him a job, and he stayed there until he retired at age 55. After selling real estate for a period, he stopped doing so due to the demanding competition of the job. He desired to unwind in retirement and take pleasure in his house and family.

He was a supporting parent to Gretchen and Greg, a devoted Paw Paw to his Sweet Olive and Precious Pearly Whirly, and a loving and supportive husband to Dot. He took immense pleasure in seeing his loved ones succeed because he was so proud of them. May he find peace with his soul
