Joe Lamar Obituary, Death, Funeral Details Of Joe Lamar

Joe Lamar Obituary, Death – We must inform you with great regret that a CJ icon has passed away. In 1999, I hired Joe Lamar. He came to CJ to serve as a job coach for a team of Life’s Work trainees who assisted in setting up our first storefront under the 62nd Street Bridge. He left me with a lasting impression. People gravitated toward him right away due to his personable, compassionate demeanor, his sympathetic grin, and his soothing voice. When he told them he worked at CJ, their eyes “lit up” and his speech became more animated.

He enjoyed assisting customers, and they reciprocated his enthusiasm. He served as CJ’s “face” on a permanent basis from the moment of our opening till 2011. He had less hours because of health difficulties, and up to COVID, he continued to work part-time at CJ while navigating the store in a wheelchair. I can recall telling someone at a gathering some time ago that I worked at Construction Junction. Oh, I see you work for Joe, the person said in response. I grinned and acknowledged that I work for Joe.

For all the years Joe was a blessing to us, CJ could not have asked for a finer “face”.  Mike Gable and the CJ Staff, Board and all the customers whose lives Joe touched Donations can be made in Joe’s memory to the Ebenezer Baptist Church –
