Eugene Olsen Jr. Motorcycle Accident – The collision occurred at the intersection of South Lafayette Drive and Fulton Street in Sumter shortly before 9 a.m. Friday. Olsen’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle on the driver’s side, Sumter County Coroner Robert Baker said. Olsen was alert and responsive on the scene when he was transported to the emergency room, Baker said. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston early next week, according to the release. The Sumter Police Department and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office are investigating. Coroner Robbie Baker said that the victim, 78-year-old Eugene Olsen Jr. of Summerton was pronounced dead at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the coroner said. An autopsy is scheduled for next week at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Both the Sumter Police Department and Sumter County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.
