Daymon Orr Obituary, Death – June 8, 2023 Daymon Orr: In Honor of His Memory We regret to inform you that Daymon Orr passed away on May 29, 2023, after a protracted battle with Parkinson’s. Daymon was a remarkable person who devoted his life to helping others and made a tremendous impact while working for the San Leandro Fire Department.
Daymon joined the agency in 1957 and worked tirelessly for 30 years before being honored with the title of Deputy Chief of Operations. His commitment has a long-lasting effect on the department’s functioning. In addition, from 1964 to 1967, Daymon presided over the San Leandro Firefighters Association. He was crucial in negotiating the firefighters’ new 56-hour workweek, which enhanced their working conditions and general well-being.
Daymon sought his AA in Fire Science because he understood the value of lifelong learning, adjusting to the changing fire service environment and preparing himself to meet new challenges. Daymon had a passion for athletics outside his professional accomplishments, especially coaching the firefighter’s softball team. His leadership enabled the club to defeat the San Francisco Red team and win the gold medal in the unlimited category in San Jose.
Their victory served as a testament to everyone’s commitment in helping a department with fewer than 100 employees win the unlimited division. Many people, notably his devoted wife Dorothy and his two kids Lennie and Tim, will miss Daymon Orr dearly. We will love and remember his services to the San Leandro Fire Department and the firefighting community. As we lament the passing of this amazing person, let us also celebrate Daymon’s life and pay tribute to his legacy by upholding the ideals he represented: commitment, leadership, and a desire to serve others. His family and loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time. There will be a service on Sunday, July 30th, at 1pm. Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., Pleasanton, CA, is the location.
