Cristobal Sanchez Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you of the demise of Retired Lieutenant Cristobal “Cris” Sanchez, a cherished member of the BCSO family. On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, Cris, 72, of Albuquerque, quietly left this world. She left behind a legacy that will always be cherished. In 1973, Cris started his employment with Bernalillo County as a deputy sheriff. He gave back significantly to our community over the course of his illustrious career, always acting with honesty, enthusiasm, and steadfast dedication.

He helped to shape our agency and ensure the welfare of our fellow officers as one of the original members of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Union. Cris worked tirelessly to promote inclusivity and understanding within the law enforcement community and took great satisfaction in his membership in the Latino Peace Officer Association. We are all going to be inspired by his dedication to developing goodwill and fostering unity.

Cris worked for the department in a variety of positions during his time there, including in the divisions of extraditions, narcotics, field services, and criminal investigations. His depth of knowledge and proficiency had a long-lasting effect on our organization and the community we serve. Cris pursued his enthusiasm for leadership in order to make an even greater contribution, eventually rising to the position of Lieutenant within the Sheriff’s Department. In 1990, Cris left BCSO for good.
