Car Accident On Highway 99 Today – Both directions of Highway 99 have reopened after a deadly crash Sunday, Caltrans said. The head-on crash was near Messick Road, just south of Yuba City, officials said. The crash at 8:47 a.m. involved a commercial vehicle and a smaller flat-deck truck on Highway 99 between Blundell Road and Steveston Highway, according to BC Highway Patrol in a media statement Members with the BC Highway Patrol, Richmond RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services were on the scene shortly after the crash.
BC Coroner’s Services, Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement are also assisting with the investigation. Highway 99 southbound, between Highway 91 and Steveston Highway, is closed with no estimated time of re-opening. There was only one person in each vehicle, officials said. The driver in the Lexus, whom the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office later identified as 20-year-old Yuba City resident Desraj Chima, was killed. The driver of the SUV was pulled out of the vehicle by someone who witnessed the crash, officials said.
